Edmund Dog arrives… A new chapter begins

March 22, 2011

March 22, 2011. Four days ago, Edmund, a three-year-old Cairn terrier, came to live with us. Cairns are known for being quite energetic and intelligent. We are not.

Edmund had always lived with Jerry and Jeanne, loving Cairn breeders, and several other Cairns in a big house often visited by grandkids. He enjoyed life as a show dog and especially liked getting gussied up and traveling with Jeanne by plane in a little doggie bag, so to speak,  to dog shows. He also loved Jeanne’s omelets when he wasn’t feeling well, which was often lately because he just had a little surgery to make him less studly.

Now Edmund will live with Jeff (who grew up with a spoiled indoor cockapoo) and Julie (who grew up with ornery outdoor farm dogs) and, when he’s home from college, David (who grew up with Josie Dog, a smart but mild-mannered Border collie mix who gradually became an indoor dog despite the marriage agreement which specified no icky pet hair in the house).

Julie didn’t want a dog after Josie Dog, 16, departed this happy squirrel chasing ground in July. But Jeff convinced her he needed a dog and HE would take care of him. Yes, he would feed and walk and pick up poo and do EVERYTHING. Stay tuned. Jeff, who may never have changed a baby diaper, probably hadn’t realized someone would need to buy panty liners at the store for the dog diapers. Let the fun begin. And this reporting of it.
