A taste of the MN State Fair

September 3, 2011

Top left: Miss Piggy sampling the new ice cream–sweet corn ice cream. Um, yes, she allowed herself to be talked into the honey and bacon topping. Verdict: Delicious.

Top right: When Julie said to the other sweet corn ice cream eaters that she’d like to find someone who’d let her photograph a walleye hat, this nice lady volunteered!

Bottom left: We happened upon our friend Rod Magsam, who has bought a Buff & Coat franchise and operates out of Northfield. Do your wood floors need to be spiffed up to look new again? Looks like a no-fuss, no-muss technique. Rod owned a ServiceMaster franchise for many, many years.

Bottom right: Jeff always likes to get Swedish meatballs and egg coffee at the Salem Lutheran “restaurant” at the fair. It’s also a little oasis from all the noise and confusion. To make egg coffee, you mix coffee grounds and eggs. Then you add that to boiling water or something like that. It is a nice mellow coffee.

We parked near the Mall of America and took a bus to the fair Friday afternoon. We visited the Miracle of Birth building (Nothing was being born right at that moment but there were lots of newborn animals) and the Eco Experience Building (where we spent most of our time talking to sustainable and solar folks) and a few other places. We limited our food to the choices above and a smoothie. Maybe we’ll try “hot dish on a stick” or “Twinkie on a stick” next year.

Bacon and honey sweet corn ice cream… wow. 😛 It almost sounds good, but the bacon…
Egg coffee does sound kind of good though. I’m content with pallea and cafe for now though. 😉 Looks like you two had a good time!

So it was good, you say? I’ll take your word for it. 😉 You are a brave soul, I tell you.
